Michael A. Brady has devoted his legal practice exclusively to litigation and trial work. Before forming Hagerty & Brady in 1989, Mr. Brady was a law clerk to then Chief Judge John T. Curtin, WDNY (1975-77), a litigation associate at Hodgson Russ LLP (1977-79), an Assistant United States Attorney, WDNY (1979-83, ending as the Chief, Criminal Division) and a partner in the litigation department of Moot & Sprague (1983-89).

Mr. Brady has been recognized by the Attorney General of the United States for his work in a series of bank fraud prosecutions in Federal Court in Buffalo. He was also selected by Judge Richard J. Arcara as a Special Prosecutor in federal court on a series of contempt citations. More recently, he has been recognized by various peer reviews including Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers and Business First's Who's Who in Law. He has long held the Martindale-Hubbell AV rating and is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.

Mr. Brady's litigation practice has been widespread, including personal injury, insurance defense, construction law, environmental law, commercial law, employment disputes, legal malpractice and aviation law. He has tried complex cases in state and federal court on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants.

Since the commencement of the Western District of New York's Mediation Program which became operative in 2006, Mr. Brady has mediated nearly 400 Federal Court lawsuits. These mediations have included wrongful death actions, commercial disputes, trademark litigation, admiralty disputes, personal injury actions, FDCPA actions and numerous other matters. In addition to his role as a Federal Court panel mediator, Mr. Brady is frequently requested to mediate State Court disputes in Buffalo and Rochester. He has also been engaged to arbitrate disputes both as single arbitrator and as a member of a panel.

Daniel j. brady

PARTNER

Daniel J. Brady joined the firm in the fall of 2015 after working for two larger firms in Buffalo.  He concentrates on litigation, including personal injury and negligence, insurance defense, municipal liability, employee benefits litigation, commercial litigation, and consumer protection law.

Before entering private practice, Daniel served in the United States Marine Corps, which included assignments as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Maryland and in the Office of General Counsel for the Director of National Intelligence.

Daniel is active in the Buffalo community, serving on the board of Vision Niagara, as well as on the Scajaquada Corridor Coalition. He also serves on the focus group for the Imagine Lasalle project, a $50 million transformation of LaSalle Park into Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park.

Edwin p. hunter

Edwin P. Hunter has broad experience in litigation, trial work and general practice. His areas of concentration involve general civil litigation, including personal injury and negligence, insurance defense, probate, estate and wills, real estate, business, corporate and commercial law.

Before joining Hagerty & Brady in 2003, Mr. Hunter was a principal for 19 years in a successful Buffalo area general practice law firm. He is a former Town Attorney for the Town of West Seneca, New York and trial attorney with the Buffalo Public Defender’s Office. He has conducted seminars in criminal procedure for the Erie County Sheriff’s Department, and has acted as judge and student evaluator for the University of Buffalo Law School’s Mock Trial Tournament.

Thomas V. Hagerty is admitted to practice before all courts of the State of New York. He is also admitted in the Northern and Western District Federal Courts as well as the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Hagerty has been certified by the Western District Court as an arbitrator and has served on hundreds of arbitrations as a neutral chairman, on three member tribunals, as well as a single neutral arbitrator.

Mr. Hagerty has long counseled both large and small insurance companies on all aspects of litigation and coverage issues. He has represented individuals and companies in enforcing their rights under insurance coverage.

He has handled and tried complex cases involving radiation and chemically induced latent personal injuries, and failures of mechanical devices such as mobile scaffolding, cranes, and forklifts. He has successfully defended municipalities in negligent hiring, highway design, and signage claims, as well as civil rights litigation.

Mr. Hagerty's career over the past 30 years has involved the defense of diverse entities in asbestos litigation. He has represented major insulation manufacturing companies, employers, and manufacturers of floor tile, friction products, pumps, valves, automotive and trucking equipment and premises owners.

Mr. Hagerty is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association and Erie County Bar Association. In addition, he is a 25-year member of the Defense Research Institute as well as Western New York Trial Lawyers Association. He has long held an AV rating with Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.

Mr. Hagerty has also served as a discovery referee pursuant to judicial appointment as a result of his reputation for being fair-minded, intelligent and practical.
